About Alpine Linux

Alpine Linux on AtoZNode

Alpine Linux is a very small system that starts fast and uses little memory. It is the favourite base for container images, and it also makes a lean server for people who like to build things up from nothing.

Available: Alpine Linux 3.23 and Alpine Linux 3.19.

What you get

Why run Alpine Linux here

A tiny install that leaves almost all memory for your own programs.

Quick boot and a simple, clear system.

The apk package manager is fast, and the package set is small.

A good fit for containers, proxies and single-purpose servers.

Good to know

Alpine uses musl instead of the usual glibc, and OpenRC instead of systemd. Most software works, but some prebuilt programs for Linux expect glibc. Our one-click apps are written for the common Linux systems, so on Alpine you set software up yourself.

FAQ

Alpine Linux VPS: your questions answered

Is Alpine hard to use?

It is simple, but different from Ubuntu: apk instead of apt, OpenRC instead of systemd. If you are new to Linux, start with Ubuntu or Debian.

Why do some programs not run on Alpine?

They were built for glibc and Alpine uses musl. Many programs have Alpine builds, or you can build them from source.

Is Alpine good for Docker?

Yes for container images. As a host for Docker it works too, but the Docker one-click app is written for the common systems such as Ubuntu.

Which payment methods can I use?

Every price is in Indian rupees. You can pay by UPI, card or net banking, and you get an invoice for each payment, with GST shown where it applies.

Do I get root access?

Yes. Every AtoZNode Cloud VPS is a KVM virtual server with full root access, so you can install any software you need.
